Ernakulam refers to Kochi's western, mainland portion of western Kerala. Here you can find the Kerala High Court, the Kochi Municipal Corporation headquarters, and the Cochin Stock Exchange.
History: The region may claim to have played a significant part in fostering the ancient and medieval trade ties between Kerala and the outside world. Ernakulam's early political past is interwoven with that of the Sangam-age Chera Dynasty, which ruled large portions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The place was later governed by the Kingdom of Cochin after the Cheras.


Economy Ernakulam is Kerala's main center of finance and trade. The town's rapid development has resulted in the Cochin Port, DP World Kochi and Cochin Shipyard. At the outskirts of the city is the technology park InfoPark, Kochi, and SmartCity, Kochi. Tourism has also made a significant contribution to Ernakulam's economy. The place, with its temples, old churches and culture, is ranked first in the number of visiting domestic tourists. Vypin or Vypeen is one of a group of islands in the southwestern Indian state of Kerala that belong to the city of Kochi. Vypin is one of the densely populated islands in Asia. The western coast of Vypin has the longest beaches in Kochi namely, the Cherai Beach, Kuzhuppilly Beach and the Puthuvype Beach.
