The Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary adjoins the Nagarhole and Karnataka Bandipur Protected Area Network in the northeast and Tamil Nadu Mudumalai in the southeast. The sanctuary is rich in biodiversity, and is an important part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The management emphasizes scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others living in and around the forest region.
