Palakkad, also known as Palghat, is a town and municipality in the Indian state of Kerala, covering an area of 26.60 km2; Given the presence of the Palakkad Gap in the Western Ghats, Palakkad is the gateway to Kerala. Palakkad has a tropical wet and dry climate. During the year temperatures remain normal, with the exception that the hottest months are in March and April. In Palakkad a very large amount of precipitation is provided, mainly because of the South-West moonsoon. July is the wettest month and the annual rainfall averages around 83 inches.
