Pathanamthitta is a fast-growing town and a municipality located in the Central Travancore region of Kerala state, India, covering an area of 23.50 km2.
HISTORY:Formerly, the regions that established the town were under Pandalam rule, which had relations with the Pandya kingdom. It is believed that Hindu God Lord Ayyappa was the king of this area. The area came under Travancore administration when Pandalam was added to the princely state of Travancore in 1820. With effect from 1 November 1982, Pathanamthitta District, the thirteenth revenue district of the State of Kerala, was established with headquarters at Pathanamthitta. It was founded through the efforts of Indian politician K. K. Nair. Nair. He is known as the Pathanamthitta Father.
