St. Francis Church, famous for its beautiful structural architecture and ambience, has an significant historical position. It is here that originally buried the famous explorer Vasco-da-Gama. His remains will be recovered 14 years later but the exact location is clearly identified to this day. The place is known for its profound Dutch and Portuguese influences, and is in itself an architectural marvel. In 1503, the credit for its building goes to the Franciscan Friars of Portugal. Originally made of mud and wood, it went through a lot of work with the Portuguese, Dutch and British leaving their marks on the spot.
