Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tested coronavirus negative on Tuesday, a day after he went home to self-isolation after a bout of fever and throat pain, his party said.
Earlier in the day, sources from Aam Aadmi Party had said the Delhi chief minister was feeling a little bit better.
Mr Kejriwal, since Sunday afternoon, was unwell and hasn't seen anyone since. He 'd been isolating himself at his Delhi government bungalow.
Sunday morning the Chief Minister met with his cabinet leaders and senior officials. Subsequently, he addressed a brief digital press conference to announce a new policy of reserving hospital beds for Delhi residents, which Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal was soon to cancel.
Delhi has witnessed a spurt in the last few days in COVID-19 cases and over 1,000 new cases daily. The number of cases crossed the 29,000-mark on Monday with 2,289 new infections while the number of deaths climbed to 812, the Delhi government's last health bulletin said.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said coronavirus infections in the capital will climb to more than 5 lakh by the end of July and it does not have the capacity to handle such an outbreak at the hospital.The alert came as horrific accounts emerged of people struggling to get a hospital bed in the city, including those who said their loved ones had died on the doorstep of medical centers refusing to take them in.
Despite a huge lockdown imposed in March, the disease is spreading at one of the fastest rates in the world in India as it reopenes a battered economy.
The number of cases stood at 2,66,598, the fifth largest in the world and is set to overtake the UK in the next few days.
