Rainfall frequency in central and southern India is likely to pick up from next week owing to a cyclonic vortex that is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and help with the moonsoon 's progress, the Indian Meteorological Department said Friday. Mrutunjay Mohapatra, CEO of IMD, said that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal and move next week towards Odisha.

On June 1 Monsoon had hit Kerala on its usual start date. Earlier, the IMD had predicted that the moonsoon would be delayed by four days but Cyclone Nisarga helped push the moonsoon to reach Kerala on its normal starting date.Conditions are becoming favorable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, southwest and east central Bay of Bengal, entire southeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of west central Bay of Bengal over the next 2 days.
The country as a whole has been receiving 9 per cent more rainfall than normal since June 1, according to the IMD.
