Yercaud is a Salem District Hill Station, in Tamil Nadu , India. It is located in the Eastern Ghats, in the Shevaroys range of hills; the Shevaroy Hills is called the Yercaud district. It is located at an altitude of 1515 metres. Beyond bananas, pears and jackfruit, coffee and citrus fruits, most notably oranges, are grown in abundance. Yercaud Lake is the only naturally created lake across all of Tamil Nadu's hill stations. The temple of Shevaroyan is a cave temple. Shevaroy temple 's principal deity is Lord Shevaroyan, worshiped by the region's tribal people. This temple can best be represented as narrow and dark caves adorned with goddess Kaveri and Lord Shevaroyan idols. The male deity is believed to be the god of Servaroyan hills while the female deity is regarded as River Cauvery goddess. It is common belief among the locals that Goddess Kaveri is believed to be the guardian goddess of the 67 villages around Yercaud.
Bear cave is located near the Bungalow of Norton, on the way to the Temple of Shervaroy. The Bear's cave is adjacent to this bungalow, and goes deep into the hill. It's said this is Lord Murugan's abode.
The Ladies' Seat derived their name from a collection of natural-made rocks. The natives claim that from this rock a White English lady used to spend the evenings enjoying the panoramic view. The viewpoint provides panoramic views over the town of Salem and Ghat Avenue. It is a great spot to enjoy the sunset. - Silk Farm and Rose Garden in Yercaud
A big attraction in Yercaud is the Silk Farm and Rose Garden, which are near to the Lady's seat. The farm and garden are situated at a naturally beautiful location, and on the farm one can see the end-to - end silk production cycle. Exploring how mulberry is grown to feed the silk worms and the different stages of growth of silk types is a pleasant experience. The cycle of creation of silk threads can also be seen here at the spinning yarn. Silk Farm is a private property, and without special permission to outsiders. During moonsoons the best season for breeding silkworms is.Anna Park is a well-preserved garden which combines four small parks known as Lake Park, Deer Park, Gandhi Park and Children's Park. The park houses a large range of natural plants and trees all over the hills of Shevaroy. There is also one Japanese garden within the Anna Garden, in which plants are cultivated in Japanese style. Also the park has a beautiful horticulture farm with a Rose Garden. Rose Garden has different rose varieties which include button rose to very large rose. One portion of the park is filled with red grass that looks like a beautiful woven red carpet. The fountain in the center of the park splashes well allowing tourists to experience the thrill of sprinkling water. The falls are situated 2.5 km from the lake Yercaud. The final 500 m or so consists only of a steep rough, unpaved path. But in the monsoon season, when the water levels are at their highest, it is a beautiful sight. The best time to visit this place is right after the monsoons.
