The T20 tournament, which was to be played in Sri Lanka in September following an offer by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to swap hosting rights following the COVID-19 pandemic, will also continue to host it next year.
"Travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine conditions, basic health threats and social distancing rules have raised significant challenges to holding the Asia Cup," read an ACC declaration. "The health and safety risks of the participating players, support staff and business partners, fans and the cricketing community were considered significant above all."
The official announcement comes only one day after an Indian news agency was told by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly that the tournament was postponed. Reacting to Ganguly 's comment, Pakistan Cricket Board Media Director Samiul Hasan Burney said on Thursday that the final decision on the matter with the ACC had been wrested.India is the tournament history's most successful team and the defending champions, winning the last two tournaments.
