India Overtakes Russia to Become 3rd Worst-hit Country

India has now taken third spot on the coronavirus list of nations worst affected. According to data from state governments, the country logged more than 6.9 lakh cases on Sunday evening overtaking Russia, which had 6.8 lakh as per Johns Hopkins University of America. With over 17,000 cases over the past 24 hours, India has overtaken Russia as the third worst-hit nation by coronavirus pandemic.

The country has been under the national lockdown to curb the spread of the virus since the last week of March. Over the last three months numerous relaxations have been made to restart the economic activities. However to prevent the outbreak, classrooms, gyms, swimming pools were shut down. Since the last week of March the international flights and subway rail have been suspended.
