On Friday, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that a full lockdown in the state would not be enforced for now. The decision was reached during the All-Party conference that took place earlier in the day.As of Friday, a total of 9,371 COVID-19 patients have been seeking care at the hospital.

"Health experts were similarly split on the view that a complete lockout was being enforced. In the all-party meeting held to discuss the situation of COVID-19, a majority of members have shared their views against complete lockdown. However, on Friday, we saw a decline in the number of positive cases compared to the last two days, where over 1,000 cases were registered. So there's no need to enforce absolute shutdown right now, "Pinarayi Vijayan said.

The number of people suffering from the disease in a day, for the first time in several days, is greater than the number of people per day found to have tested positive in a day. 968 people recuperated from the illness on Friday. This brought the overall number of patients in the state seeking treatment to 9,371.The state has also confirmed deaths of four individuals who have been found to have COVID-19, bringing the state 's overall death count to 55.

The chief minister added that the situation remains critical at Thiruvananthapuram. The district has five large COVID-19 clusters — Poonthura, Puluvila, Puthukurichi, Anchutheng and Beemapalli — and now it is found that transmission of the virus has begun in local bodies near the five clusters.
