Tamil Nadu registered 6785 new cases of COVID-19 and on 24 July discharged 6504 patients undergoing COVID-19 care across state hospitals.

Although on Friday Chennai registered 1299 new cases of COVID-19, its neighboring districts — Chengalpattu (419), Kancheepuram (349), and Thiruvallur (378) — put together 1146 new cases of COVID-19. Meanwhile, cases of novel coronavirus disease in Virudhunagar (424), Madurai (326), Thoothukudi (313), Tirupattur (234), Ranipet (222), and Trichy (217) continue to increase.

The State has 53,132 active COVID-19 cases, 13,743 of which derive from Chennai. The second district with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases is Thiruvallur under care with 4124 COVID-19 patients followed by Chenagalpattu with 2866. Kancheepuram has 2386 active COVID-19 cases. In Tamil Nadu, 10,000 children under 12 years old tested positive for COVID-19.

Tamil Nadu has screened 21,38,704 people for COVID-19, of whom 1,99,749 have screened the novel coronavirus positively. The state has also discharged as of today 1,43,297 people. 4,27,048 people have returned to Tamil Nadu via various modes from outside the state and 5,100 have checked COVID-19 positively.
