Chingam 1 (Andu Pirappu) is the Keralites New Year Day as per the Kerala calender Kollavarsham. Kolla Varsham is the traditional calendar followed in Kerala.For this year Malayalam New Year appeared on August 17th, 2020.
Keralites will be celebrating this day with prayers and ceremonies. Chingam is said to be the starting month according to the Malayalam calendar, It has total of 12 months namely, Chingam, Kanni, Thulam, Vrishchikam, Dhanu, Makaram, Kumbham, Meenam, Medam, Edavam, Midhunam and Karkidakam.this day is also the beginning of the auspicious month for weddings , moving into a new home, buying a new vehicle or starting a new venture.Earlier, when agriculture was the principal vocation in the state, Chingam 1 signalled the arrival of the harvest season.
Happiness is being with friends and family on festival days. I am sad that I cannot be with you all on this auspicious day of Chingam 1 as am living away from you all. Still, my mind is at home, where we had celebrated all the auspicious days together. Happy Chingam 1 greetings my dear.
