On Tuesday, the Kerala government handed over Rs 1.30 crore as compensation to the former ISRO scientist S Nambi Narayanan, who was falsely involved in the 1994 espionage case.
The former scientist had to remain in prison for two months before the CBI concluded that the allegations against him were false.
In 1994, he was wrongly charged with treason and convicted. In April 1996, the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) dismissed the charges against him, and in 1998, the Indian Supreme Court declared him not guilty.
In 2018, through Dipak Misra 's bench, the Supreme Court awarded Narayanan a compensation of around 5,000,000 to be recovered within eight weeks from the Kerala government.
In 2019, he received India's third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan.
