Females use a version called a mundum-neriyathum more frequently. This involves a Mundus-like pair. One is worn on the lower portion of the body around the waist, touching the ankles. The other one is worn on the upper side, with a blouse, one end tucked at the waist in the lower Mundu, and another passes through the shoulder and falls from the back to the bottom, resembling a saree.
Two forms of mundu, the single and the double, are prevalent in modern times. Just once around the tail is a single mundu wrapped, while the double mundu is half folded before wearing. Usually before use, a mundu is starched.
