Story behind Shiva Tandava Stotra

Ravana is regarded as Lord Shiva's most important and favorite devotee. The Ravana we know as Lankapati is Kubera 's brother and he took Lanka from him to become the king of Lanka.Ravana felt he was invincible after becoming Lankapati. Ravana went to Lanka one day, then on the way to Kailasa Mount. But Ravana 's plane couldn't scale the mountain of Kailas, even after millions of attempts.

That time Ravana saw the bull Nandi. As Nandi was asked by Ravana why Mount Kailasa can't cross he said this mountain is Shiva-Parvati 's residence and no stranger can climb it. Ravana felt this as an insult with pride, and he tried with all his hands to uproot the mountain. Because the hill starts to drop badly. Parvati was nervous, and complained of Shiva as he saw such a situation in Parvati.

Then, Shiva, who wanted to teach him a lesson, put his big toe on Kailasa, which caused it to collapse over Ravana, pressed Ravan 's hand underneath the mountain, and grumbled and began to apologe.

He picked his intestines, sang an manthra and praised Siva, which in time came to be known as the Shiva Tandava Stotram, realizing the power of Shiva and out of agony. Then Lord Shiva was happy and rewarded with his devotion.
