Three shutters were opened on Tuesday at the Kallarkutty Dam in Idukki, as this week severe rain in the district is projected. At 9 a.m., on Tuesday, shutters of the Kallarkutty and Lower Periyar Dams were phased open with 80 cm opened shutters releasing 400 cumec water and 120 cm opened with 900 cumec water released.

Tahsildars were directed by Idukki District Collector to transfer residents from the vulnerable landslide regions to more safe areas. There have also been a total of 310 buildings which will soon be turned into relief centres. The relief camps shall work under COVID-19 guidelines and regulations for physical space.

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday, the water level reached 2.340.30 feet at the Idukkki reservoir. At 7 a.m. there were 123.40 mm precipitation in the city. The full storage tank level (FRL) of the Idukk Dam is 2,403 feet and authorities have a high level of rule of 2,381,76 ft for the dam.

Kerala has received an Orange warning issued in Idukki on August 6 and 7, with heavy rain forecast this week.
