Next year, the 25th International Film Festival of Kerala will be held. The film academy has announced that from 12th to 19th February 2021 the fair will be held. Due to the unique circumstances of the present COVID, the film festival scheduled for December was deferred to next year.
"If the COVID-19 situation eases by early next year and we want to organise a festival, we won't be able to do it if we don't start now. Hence, we are starting with the usual background work of calling for films and shortlisting them. In case the current situation persists, we obviously will have to postpone the festival. There are quite a few challenges with organising an online festival due to issues like piracy and limiting the geography from which the films can be accessed. This was not a major issue while organising online festivals for short films or documentaries, as the academy did recently" - said official
In order to meet the COVID criteria, the academy has said that the film festival will be held in February. Entries for the film festival can be submitted by 31 October this year via the IFFK website.
Films completed between September 1 , 2019 and August 31, 2020 will have a chance to take part in the fair. Entries must be submitted by 31 October and preliminary documents must be submitted by 2 November. On December 10, a shortlist of selected films will be released. It was told that the screening materials should be submitted by next year before 20 January.
