China's Jilin-1 Gaofen 02C optical remote sensing satellite failed to reach pre-set orbit on Saturday.
The satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center at 1:02 pm on the Kuaizhou-1A carriers rocket.
The Jilin-1 satellite constellation is the first self-designed, commercially available remote sensing satellite in China, established in Jilin province. The new satellite was to be used for natural resource surveys, ecological environmental monitoring, urban development, prevention and mitigation of catastrophes and other fields with its high resolution, wide range and high-speed data transmission.
It was confirmed by the government-run Global Times that the mission failed because of the abnormal results.Specific reasons for the failure are under investigation.
