The first unit of the BSVI flagship Altura G4 SUV was delivered by Mahindra & Mahindra to the President of India. Received by the Joint Secretary at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on behalf of the President, no clear details were reported regarding this particular model.
It remains to be seen if the Alturas will become the official vehicle for the President. There is a strong possibility that the Alturas will not be able to replace the Mercedes Benz S Class (S600) Pullman Guard as the official vehicle for President, primarily due to security concerns.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is basically the rebadged version of the famous Rexton G4 from the SsangYong and it was launched a few years ago to sit on top of the domestic range from the brand. The full-size SUV, offered in 4 AT and 4 AT trims, competes against Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X. It is one of the highly capable SUVs in its category.
The Alturas G4 BS6 model comes powered by a 2.157 cc D22DTR four-cylinder diesel engine paired to a seven-speed Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission. It will also have a 4WD system on sale. It belts the same output as before, i.e. a maximum power of 178 bhp at 4,000 rpm with a peak torque of 420 Nm at 1,600 rpm-2,600 rpm, according to the brochure currently available on the SUV's official web site. Incidentally, this is the same specs as before.
It is built with a price tag of Rs. 28.73 lakh for the two-wheel drive model and Rs. 31.70 lakh for the 4x4.The Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 features an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, nine airbags, EPB, ESC, HSA, HDC, TC, seven-inch TFT instrument cluster, powered tailgate and so on.
