On October 2, every year, with prayer services and honours throughout the country, we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. India will be celebrating Gandhi's 151st birth anniversary this year.
Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 and died on 30, January 1948. He played a major role in India's Indian independence movement and was a political and spiritual leader. The new nonviolent agitation tactic he named "Satyagraha" was created by Gandhi, loosely translated as "moral domination."
He is known in India and South Africa for his non-violent civil disobedience. The beginning of the non-cooperation movement in 1922 and the Salt Satyagraha March from 12 March 1930 were included. After his assassination on 30 January 1948, the country mourned for him. Every year, on 2 October also coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi the UN International Day of Non-violence.
