Currently the Tata Nexon EV is India's most affordable electric SUV and has performed well amid tiny demand. Tata Motors managed to sell 296 Nexon EV units across the country in the month of August, the highest by a safe margin. That comes after a good outing with numbers 188 and 286 in June and July.  with a share of over 60 per cent, it is the market leader in its segment.

The Nexon EV is based on Ziptron technology ,  It comes with a permanent AC electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery of 30.2kwh. The electric powertrain produces 129hp/245Nm and with a single charge provides a maximum range of 312 km. The SUV can accelerate in 9.9 seconds, from 0-100kmph. It's available in 3 trims-XM, XZ+, and XZ Luxury.

Although the EV segment is at a nascent stage in our industry, development work and policies have begun to integrate more EVs into our ecosystem.Besides these three mainstream EVs available to the general public in the passenger vehicle segment, the Tata Tigor EV and Mahindra e-Verito are also available exclusively to fleet and cab operators. Tigor EV sold a meagre nine units and total sales add up to a paltry 95 units for fiscal year 2020-21.
