Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's Twitter account was hacked Thursday with a series of tweets asking followers for crypto-currency donations. With more than 2.5 million followers, Modi's account @narendramodi in is linked to its personal website and the NaMo app.
The tweets, now deleted, were asking his followers to donate via cryptocurrency to the National Relief Fund of Prime Minister. The personal account of Modi was not affected however.
Twitter confirmed the incident and said steps have been taken to protect it. "We are currently investigating the situation,We are not aware of any further accounts being affected at this time."
The recent incident comes after the hacking of multiple accounts of prominent figures in July.
