On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked where the UN was in the joint battle against the coronavirus pandemic. He addressed the 75th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly, which is being held for practically the first time.
"Over the last eight to nine months, the whole world has been battling the pandemic of the coronavirus,Where is the United Nations in this joint fight against the pandemic? Where is its effective response?"Modi said.
Modi also told the United Nations that, with a coronavirus vaccine, India will help the world. "As the world's largest vaccine producing country, today I want to give the global community one more assurance," he said. "The manufacturing and distribution potential of India's vaccines will be used to help all mankind battle this crisis."Modi said that during the pandemic, India's pharmaceutical industry sent medicine to more than 150 countries.
PM Modi informed the UN that 130 crore Indians still believed in their values, but said that in current times, the global body needed to adapt and evolve in order to remain relevant."Reform at the United Nations is required, and that reform is waiting India," the Prime Minister said.
The Security Council is the highest-level forum for UN decision-making. The United States , the United Kingdom, China , Russia and France have five permanent representatives.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the coronavirus has infected more than 3.24 crore individuals globally and killed 9,87,679. The worldwide recovery figure is more than 2.23 crore. On Saturday, India's coronavirus count rose to 59,03,932, while the toll reached 93,379.
The speech by Narendra Modi also focused on topics such as sustainable growth , global efforts to preserve peace and terrorism.
