NATIONAL STARTUP AWARDS 2020
- Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and commerce and industry, published the results of the National Startup Awards 2020.The National Startup Awards have been conceived by the Department for the Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade ( DPIIT) to recognise and reward outstanding start-ups and ecosystem enablers that create creative products or solutions and scalable enterprises with a high potential to generate jobs or income, demonstrating a measurable social impact.
- Applications in 12 sectors were invited to the first edition of the Awards.These 12 sectors are Agriculture, Education, Enterprise Technology , Energy, Finance, Food , Health, Industry 4.0, Space, Security, Tourism and Urban Services.Six broad criteria, namely creativity, scalability, economic effect, social impact, environmental impact, and inclusiveness and diversity, were assessed against all applicants.The ‘ Startup India Showcase 'and ‘ Blockchain-based Certificate Verification System' were also introduced during the event.
NOBEL PRIZE IN MEDICINE
For the discovery of the Hepatitis C virus, Americans Harvey J Alter and Charles M Rice and British scientist Michael Houghton were chosen for the Nobel Prize for Medicine or Physiology.
NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS
The 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded, with one half to Roger Penrose and the other half to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez for their Black Hole discoveries.
National Award for Science and Technology Communication
- Nominations for the National Awards 2020 for Science & Technology Communication have been invited by the National Council for Science & Technology Communications (NCSTC) Division of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology of India, to recognise outstanding work in science and technology communication.
- Each year, on the national day of science, awards will be given at a special ceremony held in New Delhi on 28 February.
- The categories are science & technology communication through print media including books and magazines, outstanding efforts in science & technology communication , science & technology popularization among children,translation of popular science & technology literature,science & technology communication through innovative and traditional methods and in electronic medium.
The Quad Ministers of Foreign Affairs recently held meetings with the foreign ministers of India , Japan, the US and Australia. India was represented by the Minister for External Affairs, S JaiShankar.Though this was the second such meeting, after New York in September last year, the fact that all four Ministers flew to Tokyo for the summit is noteworthy amid growing tensions between China and the Quad countries.
