In the Holy Trinity, Lord Shiva occupies a vital role. His name means "the auspicious one" literally, but "the destroyer" is his most famous epithet. The Triumvirate is made up of three gods who are responsible for the world 's creation, maintenance and destruction.

His unusual appearance has always intrigued Lord Shiva 's followers: he has three eyes, has ash smeared around his body, vibhuti , has snakes coiled around himself, wears tiger and elephant skin, leads a wild life far from social pretences in cremation grounds, and is known for his proverbial rage. Shiva is clothed in plain animal skin and usually in a yogic posture in austere environments. Parvati is always at Shiva 's side, whenever she is present.

The extra eye shows the insight and wisdom that Shiva has. It is thought to be the root of his untamed energy as well. On one occasion, as Shiva was distracted by the love god Kama in the midst of worship, Shiva opened his third eye in rage. The fire which poured forth consumed Kama, and only returned to life when Parvati intervened.

Shiva wears the crescent moon on his head. To this attribute, the epithet Candraśekhara refers.

The snake represents the force of Shiva to destroy and recreate. To make room for fresh, smooth skin, the snake sheds its skin. Three lines drawn horizontally around the forehead in white ash are the vibhuti. They reflect the all-pervading essence of Shiva, his superhuman strength and riches. They also hide his strong third eye. The three-pronged trident reflects the Hindu triumvirate's three roles.

Often, Shiva is portrayed as half man, half woman. His figure is divided halfway down the body, one half representing his body, the other half representing Parvati 's body.

Shiva is considered the master of dance. He is also referred to as the Lord of Dance. The Tandav is his most important dance. This is the celestial dance of death to destroy the world, which he conducts at the end of an age.

Orgin / Birth of lord Shiva

According to  the birth storey of Lord Shiva is such that once Brahma and Vishnu were proud of being the greatest, Lord Shiva appeared in front of them as an immense flame, a very large light, someone whose edge was not there. In the form of Jyoti, Lord Shiva put a condition in front of him that whatever my end is going to get first will be fantastic. Lord Vishnu and Brahma used to go searching for the edge of that light by hearing the sound of Lord Shiva; but after walking a lot, Lord Vishnu realised that this enormous light was not ordinary, but the Maya of God.

So he acknowledged his loss, but Brahma came to the light that plunged into the ego and said, 'I found the edge of the light.' Then Lord Shiva appeared and by telling Brahma's lie, stole his ego.

Parvati

Parvati, also incarnated as Kali and Durga, was Shiva 's wife. She was probably the reincarnation of the daughter of the god Daksha, Sati (or Dakshayani). Daksha did not acknowledge the marriage of Sati to Shiva and also went on to perform a separate sacrificial ritual for all gods except Shiva.

Outraged at this slightness, Sati threw herself into the flames of sacrifice. Shiva reacted to this tragedy by generating two demons from his hair (Virabhadra and Rudrakali) that wreaked havoc on the ceremony and decapitated Daksha. The other gods prayed to Shiva to end the bloodshed and he brought Daksha back to life, complying, but with a ram (or goat) head. In her next life, Sati was finally reincarnated as Parvati and she re-married Shiva.
