According to data released by telecom regulator Trai, Reliance Jio became the first mobile service provider to cross the 400 million customer mark in India with a net addition of more than 3.5 million subscribers in July.
According to the firm, following the addition of 7.3 million (73 lakh) new users in the last quarter, its total subscriber base stands at 405.6 million (40.56 crore), reflecting a 13.96 percent YoY development. In the same time last year, the company registered 355.9 million (35.59 crore) subscribers.
According to the monthly subscriber survey of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai), cell phone connexions in the country rose to 114.4 crore in July from 114 crore in June, with urban and rural connexions standing at 61.9 crore and 52.1 crore, respectively.
“With large capital raise in last six months across Jio and Retail business, we have welcomed several strategic and financial investors into Reliance family” said Reliance Industries Limited
Ambani referred to recent investments in Jio Platforms worth Rs. 1,15,693.95 crore (around $15.2 billion) from businesses such as Facebook, Intel, Google, Qualcomm and others.
"We continue to pursue growth initiatives in each of our businesses with a focus on the India opportunity " said Mukesh Ambani .
32.6 lakh and 3.88 lakh mobile customers were added in July by Bharti Airtel and BSNL respectively. Vodafone Idea has lost over 37 lakh clients. 5,457 mobile service clients were also lost by State-run MTNL.
"Top five service providers constituted 98.91 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of July," the Trai report said.
