Approximately 1.20 lakh of Haryana farmers wrote a letter to Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare of the Union, demonstrating their support for agricultural laws and demanding that they not be withdrawn.
In the middle of protests by farmers from Punjab and Haryana on the Delhi border, farmers associated with the farmers' producer organizations (FPOs) of Haryana wrote a letter supporting farm laws.
“We, farmers associated with 70,000 FPOs of Haryana and more than 50,000 progressive farmers, support the three farm laws brought by the Government of India.”
They also however, requested to include the amendments proposed by the farmers' organizations. They said we also support the farmers organizations demands for the continuation of MSP and asked the government to listen to the farmers organizations concerns about protesting against the farm laws.
The farm laws enacted by the government are Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Since 26 November, farmers associated with different peasant organizations in Punjab, Haryana and other parts of the country have been protesting at the borders of the national capital to demand that these laws be withdrawn.
The government and farmers' organizations have arranged five rounds of meetings and the next round of meetings is scheduled for December 9.
