India will manufacture approximately 300 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine by 2021, said Kirill Dmitriev, Head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV.

"In India, we have agreements with four large manufacturers. ... India will produce about 300 mln doses or more of the vaccine for us next year," he said.

Furthermore the RDIF CEO added that out of the 110 production sites negotiating the production of the Russian coronavirus vaccine, 10 were selected by RDIF to fulfil its requirements.

"The Russian Sputnik V will be actively produced in the world and we see that this is built on a safe platform based on the human adenovirus," Dmitriev added.

The Russian Embassy in India quoted the CEO of RDIF and said today that the country is testing the first samples we developed in India of its Sputnik V vaccine.

Russia was the first in the world to register a coronavirus vaccine for Sputnik V on August 11.
