Sri Anuvavi Anjaneyar Temple is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, near the foothills of Anuvavi. Anjaneya Swami is worshipped in this temple.
When Lakshmana wasfell unconscious and nearly died after being hit by an arrow from Ravana's son Meghnad, Sri Ram Bhaktha Anjaneyar sought advice from the Lankan Royal Physician Sushena. Sushena requested that Anjaneyar rush to the Dronagiri Hills and bring back four plants: Mruthasanjeevani, Vishalyakarani, Sandhanakarani, and Savarnyakarani. When Anjaneyar was unable to choose the four from the multitude, he returned the entire hill. And Lakshmana was resurrected from the brink of death.
Anjaneyar was thirsty while hauling Sanjeevani Hills. He was on the lookout for some water to quench his thirst. Before reaching Lakshmana, he had a rule that the hills should not be kept down. Anjaneyar prayed to Lord Shiva for help in quenching his thirst. Lord Shiva wanted water from Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga struck the rock with his "VEL" and created a fountain of water for Anjaneyar. Hanu (Anu in Tamil) means Hanuman, while Vavi means Water spring. This location was given the name Anuvavi after a Puranic event.
